Night in a Summer Forest Wall Quilt
Welcome to our Night in a Summer Forest Wall Quilt tutorial. In this guide, you will learn how to sew, quilt, and add machine embroidery to create a beautiful art quilt. We will walk you through each step, from piecing the fabric to adding final embellishments. By the end, you'll have a charming quilt perfect for any room.

We used the designs from the Mushrooms and Flowers Set (all designs fit into a small hope, 4" x 4").
The finished size of the quilt is about 16 1/2" x 15".
A small black quilt with embroidered flowers and mushrooms in jewell tones

You will need :
  • embroidery threads either polyester or rayon, (we changed the colors to match the colors of the fabrics we used);
  • about 1/2 yard of black fabric for the central part, borders and backing;
  • small amount of cotton fabrics in 4 jewell hues for the border, 1-2 of them could be used for the binding;
  • light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer;
  • batting;
  • quilter's ruler;
  • rotary cutter;
  • iron;
  • #12 universal needle;
  • quilting threads (black and variegated in jewell tones);
  • #12-#14 quilting needle.
Cutting:
Out of the 4 colored fabric, cut 4 strips each measuring 2 1/2" x 6 1/2 - 7".
Out of the black fabric, cut
  • 1 piece measuring 10 1/2" x 12 1/2" for the central part;
  • 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 11 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 17 1/2" for the borders.
Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4" if otherwise recommended, press the seam immediately after you make it.
Sew the 4 colored strips along the long edges. Cut one side even. Subcut the piece into 6 strips each 1" wide.

Rip 2 of the strips, dividing them into 1 and 3-strip elements.

Embroidery
Upload the files of the Mushrooms and Flowers Set to the embroidery machine.
Select threads. Stabilize the central part.
Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs in the center.
Remove the excess stabilizer.
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.

Pin all layers together.

We quilted in a free-motion style all over the working piece. Start from the central part, and echo-quilt the emboidery first with black thread.

Change to variegated thread, quilt some leaves around the embroidery. If you are a beginner, draw the leaves with chalk pencils first.

Press with heavy steam. Square the piece - all angles should be 90 degrees and opposite sides of the same length.
