This colorful Spring-themed table runner features a modern design and decorative embroidery from the Hibiscus Set and Flying Bird Set.
All designs are for a large hoop (5" x 7"). The finished size of the tablerunner is about 18" x 44". |

You will need :
- embroidery threads, either polyester or rayon,
- 1 yard of light-colored fabric for the body of the tablerunner (we chose neutral cream batik with a light floral pattern),
- scraps of bright yellow and red fabrics - we selected fabrics to match the colors of the flowers,
- about 1/4 yard of green fabric for the binding and you will need several strips of it for the top,
- light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
- fabric for the backing,
- batting,
- quilter's ruler,
- rotary cutter,
- iron,
- #12 universal needle,
- #12-#14 quilting needle
- quilting threads of matching colors.

Cutting:
|
Out of the main fabric, cut
- a piece measuring 12 1/2" x 38 1/2",
- 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 40 1/2",
- 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 18 1/2" and
- a strip measuring 1 1/2" and the length of the width of the fabric.
- Subcut this strip into 22 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" each.
Out of yellow fabric, cut 8 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" each.
Out of red fabric, cut
- 2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" each and
- 8 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 2 1/2 each.
Out of green fabric, cut
- 4 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" each, and
- 4 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"each.
Use the remaining green fabric for the binding.

Assembly:
|
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it. |
For the long sides of the first border, sew the cream, green, yellow and red 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" strips in the following order: green strip - (cream - red - cream - yellow) x 4 times - cream - green. Sew 2 such strips.

Sew the borders to the long sides of the central part.
|
|
For the short sides of the first border, sew the cream 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" strips, green 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" srips and red 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" strips in the following order: green - cream - red - cream - green. Sew 2 such strips. |

Sew the borders to the short sides of the central part.
|

Sew the cream 2 1/2" x 40 1/2" strips to the long sides of the working piece.
|
|
Sew the cream 2 1/2" x 18 1/2" strips to the short sides of the working piece.
|
|
Embroidery:
|
Mark the position of the embroidery on the central part. If you have a printer and embroidery software, print-outs of the designs can be helpful. If you do not, you can cut out rectangles of the same size as the designs and arrange them on the fabric to determine the position of the embroidery.
Stabilize the chosen area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one.

Quilting and Finishing
|
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style all over the tablerunner. |
|
Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
