In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create a seasonal quilt with charming Halloween flair. We’ll guide you through sewing, quilting, and embellishing your quilt with machine embroidery of scarecrows and bats, framed by bold borders. This project is simple and can be finished in time to add a spooky touch to your Halloween décor.
We used the designs from the Scarecrow Set and Halloween Bat Set.
The finished size of the quilt is about 16" x 24 1/2".

Embroidery |
Upload the files of the Scarecrow Set and Halloween Bat Set to the embroidery machine.
Mark the position of the embroidery on the central part. If you have a printer and embroidery software, print-outs of the designs can be helpful. If you do not, you can cut out rectangles of the same size as the designs and arrange them on the fabric to determine the position of the embroidery.
Stabilize the chosen area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one. Remove the excess stabilizer.

Quilting and Finishing
|
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style all over the working piece. Start from one of the stitch-outs and echo-quilt it, then proceed to the next design using the meandering quilting pattern. After the central part is done, quilt the borders.
Change quilting threads to match the fabric colors. |
|
Press with heavy steam. Square the piece - all corners should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be the same length. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
|
Have fun! |
