Get ready to create three unique Christmas art quilts that are perfect for adding holiday cheer to your home. This tutorial will guide you through sewing, quilting, and decorating these small quilts using machine embroidery and festive buttons. Each quilt features a different holiday-inspired design, making them great for decorating or gifting. Whether you're experienced or new to quilting, this project offers a fun way to explore your creativity this season. Any Christmas-themed stitch-outs can be used for the project, but we selected ones with Christmas trees: Christmas Snowfall, Chain Christmas Tree and Winter Wind Christmas Tree. All designs are for the large hoop (5" x 7").
The finished size of each quilt depends on your taste and the size of the fabric you're using for embroidery. Feel free to be creative. |
The finished size of the quilt is 8" x 9 1/2". Winter Wind Christmas Tree
The finished size of the quilt is 9" x 12 1/2". Chain Christmas Tree |

Embroidery: |
For the project, we used some scraps with test stitch-outs accumulated in our bin within passed years. However, if you do not have a habit to keep such tests, embroider the files. Upload the selected files to the embroidery machine. Select threads. Stabilize the fabric. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs. Remove the excess stabilizer.

Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together. We quilted in a free-motion style all over the working pieces. Start from the emboidery - echo-quilt it, also quilt inside the patterns. We used metallic thread for the purpose. Then proceed to the areas around the embroidery and use threads matching the colors of the fabrics.
Press with heavy steam. Square the pieces - all angles should be 90 degrees and opposite sides of the same length. Finish the raw edges with the binding. Please note that the finished size of your quilts depends on you. |
Now for the fun part! We decorate each quilt with Christmas-themed buttons. For the quilt with the Winter Wind Christmas Tree we used white snowflakes of different sizes. |
For the quilt with the Christmas Snowfall pattern we used the sparkling snowflake, snowman, and mitten buttons. |
For the quilt with the Chain Christmas Tree we used snowflake, deer, Santa's sleigh, church, and angel buttons. |
That's all! Have fun! |
