Dive into the enchanting world of quilting with our "Trees in Fall" project. This charming table runner, adorned with whimsical tree embroidery in autumnal hues, promises to be a delightful addition to any space. Perfect for those looking to celebrate the season's beauty!

We used the designs from the Fuzzy Fall Set for the Large Hoop (5" x 7").
The finished size of the quil is about 31" x 11 1/2".
A small wall quilt or table runner with autumn trees embroidery

You will need :
  • embroidery threads, either polyester or rayon,
  • small amount of cotton fabrics in autumn hues - we used yellow, brown and orange (choose fabrics to match the colors of the embroidery threads);
  • about 1/2 yard of cream or light beige fabric for the background (it's the main part of the quilt);
  • light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer;
  • fabric for the backing;
  • batting;
  • quilter's ruler;
  • rotary cutter;
  • iron;
  • #12 universal needle;
  • quilting threads (the colors of the fabrics you use);
  • #12-#14 quilting needle.
Cutting:
Out of cream fabric, cut
  • a rectangle measuring 8" x 29 1/2" and
  • a strip 2 1/2" wide and the length of the width of the fabric. Subcut into:
    • a strip measuring 2 1/2" x 7" and
    • 5 squares 2 1/2" each.
Out of orange fabric, cut
  • a strip measuring 2 1/2" x 31 1/2" and
  • a strip 1 1/2" wide and the length of the width of the fabric.
    • From the end of this strip, cut a strip 2 1/2" long.
Out of yellow and brown fabrics each, cut
  • a strip 1 1/2" and the length of the width of the fabric.
    • From the end of the yellow strip, cut a strip 2 1/2" long,
    • From the brown strip, cut 2 strips 2 1/2" long.
Use the remaining brown fabric for the binding.
Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it.
Sew the orange, brown and yellow strips together along the long sides.
Subcut this 3-color strip into 6 parts, 2 1/2" wide each.

Embroidery:
Upload the files of the Fuzzy Fall Set to the embroidery machine.

Select threads.

Mark the position of the embroidery on the central part. If you have a printer and embroidery software, print-outs of the designs can be helpful. If you do not, you can cut out rectangles of the same size as the designs and arrange them on the fabric to determine the position of the embroidery.

Stabilize the chosen area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one.
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.

Pin all layers together.

We quilted in a free-motion style all over the piece. Start from the central part and quilt around the embroidery, then proceed to the borders.

Press with heavy steam. Square the piece.
Finish the raw edges with the binding.
