Embroidery: |
Select threads. Upload the design of the Sunrise Tree into the machine.
Mark the position of the embroidery approximately in the center of the light-colored piece of fabric. Stabilize the fabric. Hoop the fabric with stabilizer tightly and embroider the design.
Trim the stitch-out to 10 1/2" high and 12 1/2" wide, leaving about 3/4" space under the embroidery and about 2" over the embroidery. |
Cutting:
Cut the golden yellow fabrics into
- 15 strips measuring 1 1/4" x 11",
- 1 strip measuring 2" x 12 1/2", and
- 2 strips measuring 2" x 11 3/4".
For the binding, cut 2 strips 2 1/2" wide and the width of the length of the fabric.
Out of different green fabrics cut
- 1 strip measuring 2" x 15 1/2" (this is the first, lightest border);
- 2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 15 1/2" (one of them should be darker than the first one), and
- 1 strip measuring 2 1/2" x 15 1/2" (this one is the lowest border and should be the darkest green).

Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it. |
Sew the 2" x 12 1/2" stripg to the upper edge of the stitch-out. Sew the 2" x 11 3/4" strips to the left and right edges of the stitch-out. |
Sew the 15 golden yellow strips into a square of about 11" x 11".
Draw a 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" square on the 11" x 11" square, diagonally. The easiest way to do this is with the help of a paper template. Cut out the square.
Cut the new square in half along a diagonal to get 2 triangles.
Measure 7 1/4" from the right upper corner of the central along both edges. Mark and connect the marks. Cut away the corner. Position a triangle face down along the cut line. Pin. Stitch along the diagonal. |
In the same way attach the other triangle to the upper left corner. |
Sew the green strips to the bottom of the working piece starting with the lightest 2" x 15 1/2", then the darker 1 1/2" x 15 1/2" strip, a lighter 2" x 15 1/2" strip, and finishing with the dark 2 1/2" x 15 1/2" strip. |
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
First we echo-quilted around the embroidery, then in a free-motion style all over the quilt. |
Press with heavy steam. Square the piece. All corners should be 90 degrees and the opposite sides are of equal length.
Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
Have fun! |
