Quilted Table Topper with Celtic Embroidery
Showcase your Celtic pride with this small table toppe! It can also be used as a wall hanging.

We used designs from the Celtic Motif Set.

The finished size of the tablerunner is about 20" x 20".

You will need :
  • embroidery threads either polyester or rayon - the choice of color is yours,
  • about 1/2 yard of forest green fabric,
  • about 1/2 of light green fabric,
  • light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
  • fabric for the backing,
  • batting,
  • quilter's ruler,
  • rotary cutter,
  • iron,
  • #12 universal needle,
  • #12-#14 quilting needle
  • quilting threads of matching colors.
Cutting:
Out of the darker green fabric, cut
  • a square measuring 10 1/2" x 10 1/2",
  • 1 strip measuring 1 1/2" x 17 1/2",
  • 1 strip measuring 1 1/2" x 20 1/2",
  • 4 squares measuring 3 1/2" x 3 1/2",
  • 4 strips measuring 3" x 16 1/2".
Out of lighter green fabric, cut
  • 4 squares measuring 3" x 3",
  • 4 strips measuring 3 1/2" x 10 1/2".
Use the remaining light green fabric for the binding.

Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it.
Sew the 4 dark green 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares to the ends of the 2 light green 3 1/2" x 10 1/2" strips.

Sew the 4 light green 3" x 3" squares to the ends of the 2 light green 3" x 16 1/2" strips.

Sew the light green 3 1/2" x 10 1/2" strips to the left and right edge of the central square.

Sew the light green strips with the dark green squares to the upper and lower edges of the working piece.

Sew the dark green 3" x 16 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the working piece.

Sew the dark green 3" x 16 1/2" strips with the light green squares to the upper and lower edges of the working piece.

Embroidery:
Mark the position of the large circular design on the central part and the small designs on the dark green squares.
Stabilize the area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one.

Stitch-out of the corner design.
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.

Pin all layers together.

We quilted in a free-motion style all over the quilt.
Close-up of the quilting stitches.

Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt - all sides should be of the same length and the corners - 90 degrees. Finish the raw edges with the binding.
