This quilted tablerunner was inspired by the simple yet elegant lines of English country houses. We used the medallion design from the Rose Motif Set for both the commercial and mega hoops.
The finished size of the table runner is about 16" x 40 1/2". |
|
You will need :
- embroidery threads either polyester or rayon,
- 1/2 yard each of cream fabric and off-white fabric either solid or with light pattern (light patterns on the fabric add more interest to the finished product);
- light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer;
- fabric for the backing;
- binding matching one of the colors of the embroidery (we chose dark green);
- batting;
- quilter's ruler;
- rotary cutter;
- iron;
- #12 universal needle;
- quilting threads (the colors of the fabricss you use);
- #12-#14 quilting needle.

Cutting and Assembly:
|
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it. |
Out of each fabric, cut 2 pieces measuring 9" x 22" each. |
Sew a cream piece to an off-white one. Press the seam to the darker fabric. Repeat for the remaining pieces. |
|
Sew both parts together so that the colors alternate. |
|
Embroidery: |
Upload the files from the Rose Motif Set (for mega and commercial hoops) into the embroidery machine. Select threads. Stabilize the central part of the top. Hoop the fabric carefully, so that the center of the top coincides with the center of the largest medallion. Hoop tightly and embroider the largest design first.
|
|
Measure 8 1/2" from the center of the top/design along the central line. Place a mark. The center of the smaller medallion should coincide with this mark. Embroider the second medallion. Repeat the procedure in the other direction on the other side of the top and stitch the design again. |
Measure 7" from the center of the second medallion along the central line. Place a mark. The center of the smallstr medallion should coincide with this mark. Embroider the third medallion. Repeat the procedure in the other direction on the other side of the top and stitch the design again. |

Quilting and Finishing
|
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style all over the tablerunner. Start from the central part, and move first to one end of the tablerunner, then to the other. |
|
Press with heavy steam. Square the piece, trim it to 16" x 41".
Using the markings on the quilter's ruler and a rotary cutter, cut the ends of the tablerunner to 90 degrees.
Finish the raw edges with the binding. |

Have fun! |
