Introducing our quilting and embroidery project: an abstract table unner featuring circle machine embroidery in bright colors. The sleek black fabric serves as a backdrop for the eye-catching circles that dance across the piece. Join us in this creative endeavor to craft a unique and vibrant addition to your home decor.
We used the designs Celtic Ornament, Celtic Circle Ornament, Celtic Ornament III, and Mayan Circle Ornament.
The finished size of the tablerunner is about 16" x 37". |

- quilting threads ( black, and the colors of the fabricss you use);
- #12-#14 quilting needle.

Embroidery: |
Working with one embroidery file at a time, upload the file into the embroidery machine. Select threads.
Stabilize a piece of black fabric. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the design.
Trim each stitch-out to 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" square. |
Cutting :
Out of black fabric, cut
- 8 strips measuring 1" x 8 1/2" each;
- 2 strips measuring 3 1/2" x 32 1/2"; and
- 2 strips measuring 3 1/2" x 17".
Use the remaining black fabric for the binding and backing.
Out of colored fabrics, cut strips measuring 1" x 8 1/2". We used 4 yellow, 3 red, 2 brown, 2 green, 1 blue.
Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it. |
Sew the colored and black strips into 4 blocks as shown. The order of the colored strips doesn't matter as long as they alternate with the black strips.
Sew each block to the embroidered squares. Try to match the fabric colors to the colors of the embroidery.
Sew the blocks together, alternating the side with the embroidery.
Sew the long, 3 1/2" x 32 1/2", black strips to the long edges of the working piece. |
Sew the shorter black strips to the short edges of the working piece. |
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style - in circles - all over the tablerunner. |
Press with heavy steam. Square the piece.
Finish the raw edges with the binding. |

Have fun! |
