Embroidery: |
Upload the files of the Christmas Coffee to the embroidery machine.
Select threads. Stabilize a piece of white fabric. Hoop the fabric tightly.
Tip: in order to hold the fabric really tightly, we wrap the long sides of the hoop with thin strips of muslin, then pin the edges of the hooped fabric to this wrap. |
Trim the stitch-out leaving 2" wide margins around the embroidery. |
Cutting:
Trim the central part to 11 1/2" x 13". |
Out of red fabric, cut
- 2 strips measuring 1" x 11 1/2",
- 2 strips measuring 1" x 14 1/2",
- 2 strips measuring 2" x 14".
Use the remaining red fabric for the binding. |
Out of white fabric, cut
- 2 strips measuring 2" x 12 1/2" and
- 2 strips measuring 2" x 17 1/2".
Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it. |
Sew the red 1" x 11 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the central part.
Sew the red 1" x 14 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the central part.
Sew the white 2" x 12 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece. |
Sew one of the white 2" x 17 1/2" strip to the right edge in the following way: align one end of the strip with the upper right corner of the working piece. Pin and stitch along the right edge stopping at the beginning of the lower white border. You'll have about 3" of this strip unattached. |
Sew one of the red 2" x 14" strip to the upper edge of the working piece. |
Sew the other white 2" x 17 1/2" strip to the left edge of the working piece. |
Sew the other red 2" x 14" strip to the lower edge of the working piece. |
Sew the unattached end of the right white border in place. |
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style. Start from the central part. Using invisible thread, quilt along the outlines of the cup, saucer and poinsettias. Then proceed to borders. Change threads as fabric requires. |
Press with heavy steam. Square the piece. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
Have fun! |
