These small Easter quilts are quick and easy to make, they can be cute hostess gifts, gifts to your friends and family, or decorations for your own home for the springtime. Designs used are from the One-Color Baby Chick Set.
The precise size of these mini quilts is easy to adjust. Quilts are between 9" x 10" and 11" x 13" in size.

You will need :
- embroidery threads either polyester or rayon - black, dark brown, or any other very dark hue to your taste,
- light-colored piece of fabric for the central part (8 1/2" x 6 1/2"),
- strips of green, yellow, blue fabrics of different width and length,
- light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
- fabric for the backing and binding,
- batting,
- quilter's ruler,
- rotary cutter,
- iron,
- #12 universal needle,
- #12-#14 quilting needle
- fabric pencils, markers or ink (optional).

Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it. |
The central part, which will be embroidered later, is 6 1/2" x 8 1/2". Cut and sew as you go. We show the process on a blue quilt, other quilts are done in the same manner. You can add strips as you like, it depends on the length your scraps. You decide on the final size of your quilt.

We added a yellow 1" x 8 1/2" strip to the bottom of the central piece. |

Then we added a 1" x 7" yellow strip to the left edge, and 1 1/2" x 7" light blue strip to the right edge.
|
|
Add a sky blue 2 1/2" x 10" strip to the upper edge.
|
|
Add a blue 2" x 9" strip to the left edge. Add a a flower patterned blue-and-yellow 2 1/2" x 11 1/2" strip to the bottom.

Add another blue strip measuring 2" x 11" to the right edge. |

Embroidery:
|
Choose any design from the One-Color Baby Chick Set. Stabilize the central area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the design.

|
Quilting and Finishing
|
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it. Pin all layers together.

We quilted in a free-motion style all over the quilt. Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |

You can leave the quilts as they are, with one-color embroidery, if you like. However, we think it's a nice touch to color them. You can use any type of fabric markers, pencils and inks. Always try the colors on a scrap of fabric before using it on a finished item. |
