Valentine Hearts Quilted Table Runner with Machine Embroidery
For this Valentine themed quilted tablerunner we used the designs from the Valentine Heart Set II for Small (4" x 4") and Large (5" x 7") hoops.

The finished size of the tablerunner is about 18" x 32".

You will need :
  • embroidery threads either polyester or rayon; pick colors to match your fabrics,
  • about 1/4 yard of pale pink fabric,
  • about 1/2 yard of dark pink (Victorian rose) fabric;
  • light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
  • fabric for the backing,
  • batting,
  • quilter's ruler,
  • rotary cutter,
  • iron,
  • #12 universal needle,
  • #12-#14 quilting needle and quilting threads of matching colors.
Cutting:
Out of both fabrics each, cut
  • 4 squares measuring 7 1/2" x 7 1/2",
  • 4 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 7 1/2" and
  • 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 9 1/2".
Use the remaining dark pink fabric for the binding.

Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it.
Sew 4 rows, using the squares and 2 1/2" x 7 1/2" strips in the following order: dark strip - light square - dark square - light strip.

Sew the 2-colored strips to the short ends of the working piece: the dark part of the strip adjacent to the light square and the light part adjacent to the dark square.

Embroidery:
Mark the position of the embroidery on the sqaures. If you have a printer and embroidery software, print-outs of the designs can be helpful. If you do not, you can cut out rectangles of the same size as the designs and arrange them on the fabric to determine the position of the embroidery.

Stabilize the chosen area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one.

Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.

Pin all layers together.

We quilted in a free-motion style all over the tablerunner.
