This elegant table runner features a clean, modern design.
It uses designs from the Floral Wreath Set. We used the designs for the large (5" x 7") and mega (6" x 10") hoops.
The finished size of the tablerunner is about 16" x 40".

We chose light-cream batik for the embroidery background, and green and purple batiks matching the colors of the embroidery.

Cutting:
Out of the fabric for the central part, cut a piece measuring 12 1/2" and the length of the width of the fabric, it can be 38"-42" depending on the fabric manufacturer.
Out of colored fabrics, cut 1-2 strips each 2 1/2" wide and as long as the fabric permits.
Out of the green fabric also cut the binding.
Assembly: |
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it. |
Sew all the colored strips into 1 long strip, as follows.
Place one strip face up, on the end of it place the second strip, face down and perpendicular to the first strip. With a pencil draw a diagonal. Stitch along the diagonal.
Cut with seam allowance 1/4".
Press the seam towards the darker fabric. Unfold.
In the same way stitch the third strip to the second one. |
Now cut the long strip into 2 to match the length of the main piece. If your piece is 38" long, then cut the strip into 2 strips 38" long each, if it's 40" long, cut the strip accordingly.
Sew the new strips together lengthwise.
Sew the border to one of the long edges of the main part.
Embroidery: |
Mark the position of the embroidery on the light-colored main part. If you have a printer and embroidery software, print-outs of the designs can be helpful. If you do not, you can cut out squares of the same size as the designs and arrange them on the fabric to determine the position of the embroidery.
Stabilize the chosen area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one.

Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style all over the quilt. |
Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
Have fun! |
