Spring Doily with Shamrock Embroidery

This cute doily features embroidery designs from the Shamrock Tile Set. It's easy to put together and doesn't require any quilting!

The finished size of the doily is about 17" x 17".

Finished doily with 4 embroidered squares and green borders.

You will need :

embroidery threads, either polyester or rayon - please follow our color card,
1 fat quarter of solid cream fabric for embroidery,
small amount of bright green fabric for the sashing,
about 1/4 yard of dark green fabric for the first border and for the lining,
about 1/4 yard of patterned fabric for the second border,
light-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
quilter's ruler,
rotary cutter,
iron,
#12 universal needle,
wide rick-rack trim (optional).

Embroidery:

Choose 4 designs from the Shamrock Tile Set. Upload the files into your machine. Select threads.
Stabilize the cream fabric with light-weight cut-away stabilizer. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one.

After the embroidery is done, trim the stitch-outs to 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" squares.

Cutting:

Out of the bright green fabric, cut

2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 5 1/2", and
1 strip measuring 1 1/2" X 11 1/2".

Out of dark green fabric, cut

2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 11 1/2",
2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 13 1/2", and
1 square measuring 17 1/2" x 17 1/2" for the lining.

Out of patterned fabric, cut

2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 13 1/2" and
2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 17 1/2".

Assembly:

Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it.

Sew the bright green 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" strip between 2 squares with embroidery. Repeat for the other 2 squares.

Sew the bright green 1 1/2" x 11 1/2" strip between the 2 rows.

Sew the dark green 1 1/2" x 11 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the working piece.

Sew the dark green 1 1/2" x 13 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece.

Sew the patterned 2 1/2" x 13 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the working piece.

Sew the patterned 2 1/2" x 17 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece.

Finishing

Place the doily right side up. Pin the rick-rack trim along the edges. Topstitch in place close to the edges, seam allowance less than 1/4" and stitch-length 2-3 mm.

Topstitch the ric-rac trim along the edges of the doily.

Cover the doily with the lining, right side to right side. Align and pin all edges.

Stitch along all sides with seam allowance 1/4". Stitch along all 4 sides, leaving 5"-6" unstitched.

Trim the corners and press the stitch lines.

Turn the work right side out, square the corners, and press .
