For this small wall quilt we used the designs from the Thanksgiving Dinner and Autumn Embellishment Set. All designs are in the cross stitch technique for a rustic look.
The finished size of the quilt is about 14" x 18".

You will need :
- embroidery threads; please follow our color cards,
- 1 fat quarter each of light colored fabric for the embroidery background, and 2 fall patterned fabrics for the borders,
- contrasting solid fabric for the narrow borders and binding, (we used yellow and dark tan),
- medium-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
- fabric for the backing,
- batting,
- quilter's ruler,
- rotary cutter,
- iron,
- #12 universal needle,
- #12-#14 quilting needle.

Cutting:
|
Out of the fabric for the central part, cut a piece measuring 6 1/2" x 9 1/2", Out of the yellow fabric, cut
- 2 strips measuring 3/4" x 9 1/2" and
- 2 strips measuring 3/4" x 7".
Out of the first patterned fabric, cut
- 2 strips measuring 2 1/4" x 7" and
- 2 strips measuring 2 1/4" x 13 1/2"
Out of dark tan fabric, cut
- 2 strips measuring 3/4" x 13 1/2" and
- 2 strips measuring 3/4" x 11"
Out of the second patterned fabric, cut
- 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x and
- 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x
Use the remaining solid fabric for the binding.

Assembly:
|
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it. |
Sew the 3/4" x 9 1/2" strips to the to the upper and lower edges of the central part.

Sew the 3/4" x 7" strips to the right and left edges of the central part.
|
|
Sew the patterned 2 1/4" x 7" strips to the right and left edges of the working piece. Sew the patterned 2 1/4" x 13 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece.

Sew the 3/4" x 13 1/2" strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece. Sew the 3/4" x 11" strips to the right and left edges of the working piece. |

Sew the patterned 2 1/2" x 14" strips to the upper and lower edges of the working piece. Sew the patterned 2 1/2" x 15" strips to the right and left edges of the working piece.

Embroidery:
|
Mark the position of the embroidery on the central part. If you have a printer and embroidery software, print-outs of the designs can be helpful. If you do not, you can cut out rectangles of the same size as the designs and arrange them on the fabric to determine the position of the embroidery.
Stabilize the chosen area. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one.

Quilting and Finishing
|
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style all over the quilt. |
Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
