Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press the seam immediately after you make it.
Blocks:
Sew the colorful 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" strips and cream 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" strips together in 6 pairs.
Sew the colorful 1 1/2" x 8 1/2" strip to the right edge of the 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" cream square. Repeat for all 8 1/2" squares. |
Sew one of the 2-color strip from Step 1 to the upper edge of the square, making sure the colorful parts adjoin. Repeat for all 8 1/2" squares. |
Sew another 2-color strip to the left edge of the square, colorful part towards the bottom. Repeat for all 8 1/2" squares. |
Sew the colorful 1 1/2" x 10 1/2" strip to the lower edge of the square. Repeat for all 8 1/2" squares. |
Joining the Blocks
Sew the 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" cream strip to the lower edge of the first block.
Rotate the second block 90 degrees, so that the "opening" in the colored square is on the top right. Sew this block to the lower edge of the 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" strip.
Sew the next 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" strip to the lower edge of the second block.
Sew the last block to the lower edge of the strip.
Borders:
Sew the 3 1/2" x 34 1/2" strips to the long edges of the working piece.
Sew the 3 1/2" x 16 1/2" strips to the short edges of the working piece.
Embroidery:
Mark the position of the embroidery. We used the designs from the Spring Vines Set and positioned them in the "openings" of the squares.
Stabilize the chosen areas. Hoop the fabric tightly and embroider the designs one by one.
Quilting and Finishing:
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together. We quilted in a free-motion style all over the table runner. |
Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
You're done!
