Embroidery:
Stabilize the light-colored fabric with light-weight cut-away stabilizer. Upload the files from the Red Tile Set into the machine and embroider them one by one.
Trim the stitch-outs to 5" x 5" squares.
Cutting:
Out of the patterned fabric for the tabletopper, cut
- 8 squares measuring 5" x 5" and
- 2 squares measuring 14" x 14".
Out of dark brown fabric, cut
- 2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 18 1/2" and
- 2 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 20 1/2".
Assembly:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press every seam immediately after you make it. |
Lay out the embroidered 5" squares and batik 5" squares in 4 rows, alternating the squares.
Sew the squares into rows.
Sew the rows together into a square central part.
Sew the 1 1/2" x 18 1/2" strips to the top and bottom edges of the central part.
Sew the 1 1/2" x 20 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the central part.
Cut the 14" squares diagonally to get 4 triangles.
Sew the triangles to each side of the topper.
Quilting and Finishing
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together. We quilted in a free-motion style all over the quilt. |
Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
Have fun! |
