Contemporary Quilted Table Set: Tablerunner and Placemats
This quilted table set features contemporary styling, thanks to the art quilt piecing and the designs from the Geometric Design Set. For the tablerunner we used the designs for the small hoop (4" x 4"). For the placemats, we used the designs for the mega hoop (6" x 10").

The finished size of the tablerunner is about 35 1/2" x 15 1/2". Each placemat is about 12 1/2" x 17 1/2".

Table Runner:
Embroidery:
Chart the black fabric into 6 squares, each measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/2". Do not cut out yet! Stabilize each square with light-weight cut-away stabilizer and embroider all 6 designs for the small hoop one by one.
Cut out the squares, each must be 6 1/2" x 6 1/2". Cut away the excess stabilizer.

Alternatively, you can cut a strip measuring 6 1/2" x 37" and do the embroidery after you sew the top.
Cutting:
Out of black fabric, cut
  • 3 strips measuring 1 1/2" x 37",
  • 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 37".
Out of colored fabrics each, cut 5 strips measuring 1" x 37".
Assembly:
Note: Seam allowance is 1/4". Press the seam immediately after you make it.
Sew all 6 embroidered squares into a strip. You can stitch them together in any order.

Quilting and Finishing:
It's the same for the tablerunner and placemats.
Place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with the batting. Spread your working piece over it, face up.

Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style all over the table runner and place mats.
