These are instructions on how to embroider the designs from the Floral Easter Ornament Applique Set. These designs are universal - you can embroider them as regular embroidery designs, as applique, and as freestanding applique.
Freestanding Applique Embroidery |
The freestanding stitch-outs can be used as coasters, or Easter tree, table and window ornaments. |
You will need :
- embroidery threads, either polyester or rayon, use our colors cards, but feel free to chose your own colors,
- polyester craft felt,
- fabric for the applique, (we recommend solid pastel colors),
- watersoluble embroidery stabilizer,
- applique scissors,
- 2 sewing pins or temporary adhesive.
All designs are embroidered in the same way.
Step One: Upload a design from the set into the machine. Select threads. Hoop a layer of watersoluble mesh, polyester craft felt and applique fabric. Tighten the hoop. Start the machine. The first color will embroider the outline of the egg and stop.
Step Two: The second color embroideres the "quilting" lines. Colors 3-6 (or 3-7, or 3-8) embroider the leaves and flowers, change threads as needed. Embroider the design up to the last 2 colors.
Step Three: Take the hoop from the machine and with the pair of sharp scissors cut away first the fabric, then the felt around the egg outline. Take care not to cut through the stitches and through the watersuluble mesh.
Step Four: The next color embroiders the outline of the egg again. This step is needed if you want to make the backing for the design. Before starting the machine, pin a piece of fabric to the back of the hoop.

Start the machine. It will embroider the outline of the egg.
With a pair of sharp scissors, cut away the fabric around the outline as close to the stitches as possible. Take care not to cut through the stitches.
Step Five: The last color will finish the raw edges of the applique:
Step Six: Take the stitch-out from the hoop, cut away the excess stabilizer, wash away the remainder. Let the stitch-outs dry. Press if needed.

Applique Embroidery
Regular applique designs are basically embroidered in the same way. You do not need backing and watersoluble stabilizer.
You will need :
- embroidery threads, either polyester or rayon, follow our color card or chose your own colors,
- base fabric (the fabric on which you make the embroidery),
- fabric for the applique,
- light-to-medium-weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
- applique scissors,
- either 2-3 sewing pins or temporary fabric adhesive.
Step 1: Upload any file from the set into the machine. Hoop your base fabric stabilized with cut-away stabilizer. Pin the applique fabric to the base fabric. Take care to pin outside the embroidery field. You can also use temporary fabric adhesive. Start the machine. The first color will embroider the outline of the egg and stop. |
Step 2: The second color embroideres the "quilting" lines. Colors 3-6 (or 3-7, or 3-8) embroider the leaves and flowers, change threads as needed. Embroider the design up to the last 2 colors.
Step 3: Embroider the next color - it's the egg outline. With a pair of sharp scissors, cut away the excess applique fabric around the outline. Cut as close to the stitches as possible, take care not to cut through the stitches. |
Step 4: The last color will finish the raw edges of the applique fabric.
The designs can also be embroidered without applique fabric, as regular embroidery patterns. Just change the threads as needed.
