This quilted table set consists of a table runner and 4 place mats. The set is super easy to piece, yet the embroidery really makes it pop.
For this set we used the designs from the Easter Egg Set.
The finished size of the table runner is about 19" x 41", each placemat is about 13" x 16".

Cutting:
|
For the tablerunner, out of cream and bright green fabrics, each, cut a piece measuring 20" x 22".
For the placemats, out of cream and bright green fabrics, each, cut 2 pieces measuring 14" x 18". |
Assembly of the Tops: |
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press a seam towards darker fabric as soon as you made it. |
Table Runner: |
On your cutting mat, stack the 20" x 22" pieces, right side up, aligning all edges. Place your ruler on a diagonal. For a piece this large, you might need a second ruler to reach all the way along the diagonal. Make sure they are aligned accurately! Cut along the diagonal.
If you do not use a rotary cutter, draw a diagonal with a graphic pencil, then cut through both layers with scissors.
You'll get 2 green and 2 light-colored triangles. |
|
Sew the left green triangle to the right cream triangle, and the left cream triangle to the right green triangle. You'll get 2 rectangles: |
|
Now sew the rectangles together with the cream triangles touching. |
|
Place Mat: |
For the placemats stack the 14" x 18" cream and green pieces, right side up, aligning all edges.
With the ruler connect the opposite corners and cut (or draw a diagonal first and them cut). You'll get 4 green and 4 cream triangles. |
|
In the same way, as you did for the table runner, sew the left green with the right cream, and right green with the left cream to get 4 rectangles. |
|
Embroidery: |
Now upload the files from the Easter Egg Set into the machine and embroider them one by one all over the tablerunner. Use the light- to medium-weight cut-away stabilizer. Please note that the embroidery uses running stitches and is not dense. The background fabric will be visible through the embroidery. That's why you should be careful with the colors you use over the green fabric. We recommend to use either yellow or blue shades over green. |
|
On the placemats, we placed the embroidery on the cream triangles. |
|
|
Quilting and Finishing: |
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together with 1" pins and start quilting. We quilted in a free motion style all over the placemats and the tablerunner. |
We used quilting threads of different colors, matching the colors of the embroidery. |
After the quilting is finished, press the work with heavy steam and square the work -- all corners should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be of the same length. |
Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
|
Enjoy! |
