Make Up or Jewelry Purse
On this page we show one of the projects you can make with the Quilted-in-the-Hoop Primrose Panel Set. We made a zippered purse for make-up or jewelry.

The finished size of the bag is about 6" x 8".
Finished purse.


You will need :
  • embroidery thread, either polyester or rayon (choose any colors you like),
  • medium-weight non-unraveling fabric, such as faux leather, faux suede, etc.
  • a fat quarter of cotton fabric for the lining,
  • 7"- 8" long zipper,
  • polyester craft felt,
  • #14 universal sewing machine needle,
  • sewing thread of matching color,
  • sewing needle for hand-stitching,
  • rotary cutter,
  • quilter's ruler,
  • iron.
Embroidery:
Stabilize the fabric with polyester craft felt and embroider a back panel and one of the front panels.

Using a quilter's ruler and rotary cutter, cut out the stitch-outs leaving 1" margins around the stitches.

Assembly of the Bag
Take the front panel and the zipper. Lay the panel with its right side up. Lay the zipper on top of it, face down. Pin the zipper along the upper edge of the panel. Start and finish at the embroidery edges (orange lines in the picture).

Top-stitch the zipper to the front panel, seam allowance slightly more than 1/4". Start and finish at the edges of the embroidery.

Unfold the zipper and fold the upper edge of the panel back. Topstitch in place, seam allowance 1/16".

In the same way, attach the zipper to the back panel.
Open the zipper. Fold the purse right side inwards. Align the edges. Stitch one of the sides, seam allowance slightly more than 1/4".

Unfold the seam allowance flat. Fold the upper edge inside and topstitch in place.

Repeat for the other side. Then sew the bottom. Turn the purse right side out.
The Lining:
Out of cotton fabric, cut the lining - a rectangle measuring 8 1/2" x 14".

Fold it widthwise in half, right side inwards. Lightly press the bottom line. Fold the upper edges 1" back and press them.

Unfold the upper edges and sew the sides, seam allowance slightly more than 1/4". Cut the corners.
Lining, wrong side, clipped corners.
Open and press the seams. Fold the upper edges back.
Lining with folded back upper edge.
Insert the lining into the purse, align the side seams and hand-sew the lining to the purse.
