The finished size of the table runner is about 16 1/2" x 41 1/2".

Assembly of the Top: |
Note: seam allowance is 1/4", press each seam after you make it. |
Sew the patterned 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares and red 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" strips together into strips in the following order: square - strip - square - strip - square. Use the squares of the same fabric in each strip. You'll get 4 strips. |
Sew 1 1/2" x 8 1/2" red strips to the strips you just made: |
Now sew these new strips to the 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectangles. You'll get 4 blocks that look like this: |
Take the first block. Set it down so that the light-colored area is on the right. Sew 1 1/2" x 9 1/2" red strips to the top and bottom of the block. |
Sew the 1 1/2" x 10 1/2" strips to the left and right edges. |
Blocks 2 and 4 are sewn the same way: Orient them so that the light-colored area is on the left. Sew a 1 1/2" x 9 1/2" green strip to the lower edge of each block. |
Sew the 1 1/2" x 9 1/2" red strips to the left and right edges. |
For Block 3, orient the block so that the light-colored area is on the right. Sew the 1 1/2" x 9 1/2" red strip to the lower edge of the block. |
Sew the 1 1/2" x 9 1/2" red strips to the left and right edges. |
Sew the blocks together in order: |
Sew the 3 1/2" x 36 1/2" patterned borders to the long edges of the working piece. |
Sew the 3 1/2" x 16 1/2" patterned borders to the short edges of the working piece. |

Quilting and Finishing: |
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all three layers together with 1" pins and start quilting. We quilted all over the working piece in a free motion style using quilting threads of matching colors. |
After the quilting is finished, press the work with heavy steam and square the work -- all corners should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be of the same length. |
Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
Enjoy! |
