For this charming set we used the designs from the Maple Wreathes and Borders Set.
The border designs are for the large hoop (5"x 7") and the wreath designs are for the mega hoop (8" x 8"). If you do not have a mega hoop, you can buy the Maple Border Set and use some of the designs from there instead of the wreaths.
The finished size of the tablerunner is about 19" x 42". Each placemat is 14" x 19".

You will need :
- embroidery threads either polyester or rayon (we recommend following the color card),
- 1 1/2 yard of light-colored cotton fabric for the embroidered part. In color, it can be natural, light cream, light beige or pale yellow (we used Osnaburg),
- 1 yard of patterned fabric in autumn colors for barders and binding,
- light-to medium- weight cut-away embroidery stabilizer,
- fabric for the backing,
- batting, (use your favorite one),
- iron,
- quilter's ruler and rotary cutter,
- quilting threads of matching colors.
Cutting:
For the table runner, out of light-colored fabric, cut a rectangle measuring 12 1/2" x 42". For each placemat, out of light-colored fabric, cut a rectangle measuring 14 1/2" x 16 1/2"
For the tablerunner, out of patterned fabric, cut 2 strips measuring 3 1/2" x 42" each. For each placemat, out of solid colored fabric, cut a strip measuring 3 1/2" x 14 1/2" . Use the remaining fabric for the binding. |
Assembly:
Note: seam allowance 1/4", press every seam immediately after you make it. |
For the tablerunner, sew the 3 1/2" x 42" strips to the long sides of the solid-colored rectangle.
For the placemats, sew the 3 1/2" x 14 1/2" strips to one of the short sides of the solid rectangles (14 1/2" x 16 1/2").
Embroidery:
On each placemat we embroidered a circular wreath. Stabilize the center of the light-colored part with cut-away embroidery stabilizer. Hoop tightly. Upload the file to your embroidery machine and embroider it.
For the tablerunner we used more files: oval wreath in the center, corner branches and straight branches on the ends.
Fold the tablerunner in half lengthwise and lightly press the folded line to mark the central axis on which you'll position the center of each design while hooping.
Choose the designs you want on your tablerunner, upload into the machine and embroider one by one.
Quilting and Finishing:
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together.
We quilted in a free-motion style all over the tablerunner and placemats. |
Press with heavy steam. Square the quilt. Finish the raw edges with the binding. |
