This table runner is easy to make using scraps of green fabric. It would be a great present for Mother's Day!
We used designs from the Peony Set.
The finished size of the quilt is about 18" x 42".
You will need :
Cutting:
Out of light-colored fabric, cut
Out of green fabrics, cut
Assembly of the Top:
Note: Seam allowance is 1/4". Press each seam after you made it.
The top is assembled strip by strip. It consists of 7 pieced strips and 2 solid ones.
Sew the pieced strips in the following order:
Strips 1 and 7: green strip 16 1/2" long - light strip 8 1/2" long - green strip 6 1/2" long - light strip 8 1/2" long - green strip 4 1/2" long.
Strips 2 and 6: green strip 14 1/2" long - light strip 8 1/2" long - green strip 6 1/2" long - light strip 8 1/2" long - green strip 6 1/2" long.
Strips 3 and 5: green strip 12 1/2" long - light strip 8 1/2" long - green strip 6 1/2" long - light strip 8 1/2" long - green strip 8 1/2" long.
Strip 4: green strip 10 1/2" long - light strip 8 1/2" long - green strip 6 1/2" long - light strip 8 1/2" long - green strip 10 1/2" long.
Sew all the pieced strips together in order (see diagram below). Sew the light-colored strips to the left and right edges of the table runner.
Embroidery:
With paper templates, mark the position of each flower on the light-colored portions of the table runner. Stabilize each place with medium-weight iron-on cut-away stabilizer. Hoop it tightly.
Select threads according to the JPG color card (not by the screen of your machine or embroidery software!). It is possible to substitute colors for these particular designs, but be sure to make a test stitch-out on scrap fabric! Substituting colors in photo-stitch designs is not as straightforward as other embroidery styles.
Upload the embroidery files of the Peony Set into the machine and embroider them one by one.
After the embroidery is done, press the stitch-outs and cut away the excess stabilizer.
We made our peonies pink.
Quilting and Finishing:
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all layers together with 1" pins and start quilting. We quilted all over the table runner in a free motion style.
After the quilting is finished, press the work with heavy steam and square the work -- all corners should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be of the same length.
Finish the raw edges with the binding.
Enjoy!
