These are instructions on how to embroider the Applique Christmas Balls. All designs are for a standard small hoop (4" x 4").
Size: 76 mm x 99 mm Stitches: Average number of stitches is 10,000 Colors: 5
You will need:
- embroidery threads, either rayon or polyester,
- base fabric (fabric on which you embroider),
- embroidery stabilizer, the type and weight depends on your project,
- pieces of applique fabric,
- scissors.
Embroidery:
All designs are embroidered in the same way. Stabilize the base fabric with stabilizer. Hoop it tightly. Prepare the embroidery threads. Upload one of the embroidery files into the machine.
The first color will embroider a circle and stop.
Cover the outline with a piece of applique fabric. You can secure the applique fabric with pins or scotch tape outside the embroidery field. Start the machine. It will embroider the same outline over the applique fabric and stop.
With a pair of sharp scissors, cut away the fabric around the outlines as close to the stitches as possible. |
Return the hoop to the machine. Start it again. The next (third) color will embroider the motif inside the circle. The fourth color will finish the raw edges of the applique. The fifth color will embroider the bow. Change threads, if desired. |
Cut out jump stitches and you are done! |
Here is a very simple idea on how to use the designs - a small wall quilt.
You will need:
- A fat quarter of dark fabric preferably with a winter-themed pattern,
- 1/8" wide satin ribbons in colors of the bows on the embroidery (we used red and green),
- a piece of batting,
- fabric for the backing and binding,
- fabric for the applique,
- permanent fabric adhesive
On the fat quarter embroider the applique balls. Make the quilt "sandwich" out of the backing, batting and top. Quilt the "sandwich". Press with steam and square the working piece. |
Working with one ribbon at a time, use a small amount of adhesive to attach the ribbons. Press the ribbons with your fingers. Give the glue some time to dry. |
Finish the raw edges with binding. |
Enjoy! |
