These matching cushions can add a great personal touch to your couch or loveseat. For these pillows we used the design Renaissance Frame and the letters from the Renaissance Monogram Alphabet.
For each cushion you will need :
Cutting:
Out of the fabric, cut 1 square measuring 19" x 19", 1 rectangles measuring 11 1/2" x 19".
Finish the raw edges of the square and rectangles either with zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine, or on a serger.
Embroidery:
Select and prepare threads for the embroidery.
Mark the center of the square. Stabilize the fabric with the cut-away stabilizer. Hoop the fabric, trying to position the hoop so that its center coincides with the center of the square.
Upload the files into the embroidery machine.
Embroider the files. After the embroidery is done, open the hoop/frame and press the fabric.
Sewing the Back Panel of the Cushion:
Take both rectangles and fold one of the long sides of each 1" back. Press.
Edge-stitch or blind-stitch the hem in place.
Position both rectangles on the table, right side up, the folded edges towards each other.
Take 12" of Velcro tape. Sew one half of it to the face/front, top edge of lower rectangle and sew the other half to the back, bottom edge of the upper rectangle.
Position one part of the Vecro tape along the upper edge of the lower rectangle, on its right side, 2 1/2" from the side edges. Pin in place.
Position another piece of the Velcro tape along the lower edge of the upper rectangle, on its wrong side, 2 1/2" from the side edges. Pin in place.
Top stitch the Velcro tape in place.
Overlap both rectangles to close the Velcro tape. Pin the side edges together in the spots where they overlap. Top stitch them together.
Topstitch both parts together about 2" from the outer edges towards the Velcro closure.
Sewing the Front Panel of the Cushion:
Position the embroidered piece on the table, right side facing.
Take the cord piping trim and start pinning it along the edges of the panel, cord facing inside and aligning the lip with the fabric edges. Round the corners with the trim.
Overlap the ends of the cord and let the ends protrude beyond the panel's edge.
Stitch the trim to the front panel.
Assembly of the Cushion:
Position the front panel with the attached cord on the table, face up. Cover with the back panel, face down. Align and pin the edges together.
Sew all sides together. Seam allowance 1/2".
Open the Velcro closure and turn the pillow right side out.
Insert a pillow shape and close the closure.
Have fun!
