This elegant cosmetic purse is quite quick and simple to make. It's easy to personalize and makes a great gift. We used stitch-outs of Wild Poppies with Wheat Ears and Geranium.
The finished size is about 8" x 10".
You will need
Embroidery:
Upload the files of Wild Poppies with Wheat Ears and Geranium into the machine. Select threads according to the color cards. Stabilize the fabric, and embroider the designs. Cut away stabilizer around the embroidery.
Cutting out the Outer Bag:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4". Press every seam immediately after you make it.
Position the frame on the stitch-out as shown on picture. With the chalk pencil trace the outline of the frame. Continue the sides down, approximately 3" below the stitch-out. Add 1/4" seam allowance. Mark the ends of the frame on the fabric.
Your rectangle will be about 8 1/2'" wide and about 11" long. Cut it out.
Using the first rectangle as a template, cut out the other stitch-out. Then cut out 2 similar rectangles from the fabric for the lining.
Position the panels of the outer bag face to face and pin. Stitch together starting from the first tip mark, along one side, along the bottom and up along the other side to the second tip mark.
Position the lining panels face to face and pin. Stitch them together, starting from the first tip mark, along one side and about 2" along the bottom. Stop, cut thread. Leave about 4"-5" opening in the bottom. Continue stitching together, stopping at the second tip mark.
Stitch box corners at the bottom of the outer bag and the lining. For this separate the front and back sides at the corners. Center the seams on each side of the corner on top of each other. Measure 1 1/2" along the seam from the corner and draw a line perpendicular to the seam across the corner and machine-stitch it. Do not trim the seam.
Turn the outer bag right side out. The right side of the lining stays on the inside.
Place the outer bag inside the lining bag. Align and pin together the unfinished edges.
Stitch them together.
Through the opening in the bottom, turn the working piece right side out.
Tuck the raw edges of the bottom inside and topstitch the opening closed.
Spread and press all seams.
Tuck the lining inside the bag.
With the sewing needles and pearl cotton embroidery thread sew the frame to the bag.
The cosmetic or jewelry purse is done!
Enjoy!
