For these quick, cute placemats, we used one-color designs from the Jam Jar Set for a large (5" x 7") hoop.
The finished size of each placemat is about 15 1/2" x 27".
You will need
Cutting:
For one placemat: out of marble green fabric, cut
Assembly of the Blocks:
Note: seam allowance is 1/4". Press every seam immediately after you make it.
Sew a white 1 1/2" x 7" strip to the lower edge of the green rectangle.
Sew a white 1 1/2" x 9" strip to the right edge of the green rextangle.
Sew a yellow 1 1/2" x 8" strip to the lower edge of the block.
Sew yellow 1 1/2" x 10" strip to the right edge of the block.
Repeat to make 3 such blocks
Assembly of the Top:
Sew all three blocks in a row as shown on the picture below:
Sew the brick red 2 1/2" x 10" strip to the right edge of the row.
Sew the brick red 3" x 28" strip to the lower edge of the mat.
Sew the white 3" x 28" strip to the upper edge of the mat.
Embroidery:
Upload the files from the Jam Jar Set into your machine and embroider them on the blocks. Pick a thread color that contrasts with your fabric.
Quilting and Finishing:
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all three layers together with 1" pins and start quilting. We quilted with a meandering pattern all over the mats.
After the quilting is finished, press the work with heavy steam and square the work -- all corners should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be of the same length.
Finish the raw edges with the binding.
Your placemat is done. Enjoy!
