For this gorgeous quilted Table Runner we used designs from our Roses section of the catalog. We picked up all pink roses.
The finished size of the runner is about 19 1/2" x 55 1/2".
For the top, we used batiks of 8 colors: 5 in pastel hues from pale pink to pale green and 3 in bright green hues. The project is a lot quicker if you can get pre-cut 2 1/2"-wide strips in these hues. These kinds of strips are sometimes available at craft stores.
You will also need fabric for the backing, batting, embroidery threads and medium-weight cut-away stabilizer. |
Cutting:
Before cutting you should decide in which order you will arrange the fabrics you have - you should go from the lightest to the darkest. Mark all fabrics with numbers from 1 to 8.
If pre-cut 2 1/2" wide strips are not available, cut your fabric into 2 1/2" wide strips and the length of the width of the fabric, that is about 40" - 42" long. For the the first part, you will need 1 strip of colors #1 through # 4 and 2 strips of colors #5 through # 8.
The quilt is assembled in 3 parts. We'll describe the cutting as we get to each part.

Embroidery: |
From your embroidery software print out templates of the designs. We used the pink roses from our vast collection.
Cut out the templates and arrange them on the quilt top. When you are satisfied with your arrangement, embroider the roses one by one.
You can use either iron-on cut away stabilizer or polyester felt instead of the stabilizer. |
Pink Heart Rose is embroidered twice in each of the corners |
Queen Mary Rose |
Queen Victoria Rose |
Lancaster Roses |
Florentine Rose |
Pink Rose |
Quilting and Finishing:
Spread the backing on your table, face down. If you used a stabilizer for the embroidery, cover the backing with batting. If you used polyester felt, then no additional batting is needed. Cover with the working piece. Pin all three layers together with 1" pins. |
We quilted around the embroidery and all over the quilt in a free-motion style with floral patterns. Remove the pins while working. |
Press the work with heavy steam. Use a long ruler and a cutter to trim the long edges of the work.
Finish the raw edges with binding. |
Enjoy!
Happy Stitching!
