You will need fabric, water soluble mesh and embroidery threads. 40-weight embroidery polyester threads are preferred for the project.
Cotton thread is not suitable because the embroidery will be too bulky.
Rayon thread is sensitive to the chemicals in the water-soluble mesh and will not work for the project.
Please note: ALWAYS make a test stitch-out on scrap before you make a stitch-out on the real item.
Step One: To embroider the design as a free-standing ornament, hoop a layer of water soluble mesh. Start embroidering. The machine will embroider the outline - a circle - of the design and stop.
Step Two: Cover the outline with a piece of fabric. You can pin the fabric to the stabilizer outside the embroidery field. Start the machine. It will embroider the circle and the outline of the butterfly.
Step Three: Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors cut away the fabric - outside and inside the cirle and around the butterfly. The areas of fabric which are meant to be removed are shown in the picture.
Step Three: Return the hoop to the machine and finish embroidering.
Step Four: Wash away the stabilizer and leave to air dry. Press with steam
To embroider the design as an insert, hoop fabric stabilized with water-soluble mesh. Either embroider, or skip step 1 (the circle), follow steps 2 through 4 as described above.
