This small, elegant purse features the designs from the Porcelain Flower Basket Set. The purse is a good organizer for small items - cell-phone, cosmetics, etc.
Besides embroidery threads (either polyesyer or rayon) and medium weight cut-away stabilizer, you will need a thin or "invisible-style" zipper 10"-12" (25-30 cm) long, polyester leatherette of 2 contrasting colors and fabric for lining.
Note: it's easier to work with a slightly longer zipper, as its ends can be cut away later.
Embroidery:
Stabilize the leatherette and embroider both designs.
We embroidered one of the designs on brown leatherette with white thead, and the second design on white leatherette with brown thread.
When the embroidery is finished, cut away the excess stabilizer and trim both pieces. On the first stitch-out, leave a 2 1/2" upper margin and a 3/4" lower margin; leave 1" on both sides.
On the second stitch-out, leave a 3/4" upper margin and a 2 1/2" lower margin; leave 1" both sides. These are the front and back panels. See picture below:
Place both panels face to face, align all edges. Be sure that lower edge of the front is aligned with the lower edge of the back panel.
Stitch the panels together along the lower edges about 3/8" from the edge. Open the seam and press it open. Topstitch the seam allowance on each side, 1/4" from the seam.
Using the panels as a template, cut out a piece of the lining.
Position the zipper, face down, along the upper edge of the front panel. The ends of the zipper should protrude slightly beyond the sides.
Topstitch the zipper to the panel.
Cover the purse top with the lining, face to face, align the edges. Topstitch the lining along the zipper edge. Now one side of the zipper is between the top and the lining.
Unfold the lining and lightly press the seam.
Align the second half of the zipper with the edge of the back panel. Pin. Stitch in place.
Open the zipper, turn the work out and sew the lining to the second half of the zipper.
Close the zipper and turn the work right side out. Press the seam. This gives you a tube.
Open the zipper and topstitch about 1/8"-1/4" from the zipper on both sides.
Turn the wrong side out. Fold the tube as shown:
The zipper should be about 1 1/2" below the upper edge. Pin the edges together.
Topstitch along one of the edges twice 3/8 and 1/4" from the edge. Be sure that the zipper's slider stays on the other side, so you can still open the zipper after you finish the first side.
Cut away the excess zipper. Finish the raw edge with zig-zag.
On the other side, open the zipper about 1/3 of the purse's width. Finish the side in the same way as described above.
Open the zipper, turn the work right side out.
The purse is ready. Enjoy!
