This baby quilt features the Dwarf with Fruit Set in the satin stitch technique and Fruit Applique Set. The quilt is very simple to sew and looks very attractive.
The finished size of the quilt is 42" x 42".
You will need:
Out of white fabric, cut 13 squares measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/2".
Out of dark green fabric, cut 72 squares measuring 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Out of red fabric, cut 26 squares measuring 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Out of blue fabric, cut 22 squares measuring 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Out of yellow fabric, cut 12 squares measuring 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Out of light green fabric, cut 12 squares measuring 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Sew all the small squares into pairs. One square in each pair should be dark green. You will get: 26 red and green pairs, 22 blue and green pairs, 12 yellow and green pairs, 12 light and dark green pairs. Always press the seam towards the green square.
Next, assemble the rows of the quilt per the instructions below
Row 1: for this row use 8 red-green and 6 blue-green strips. Sew them in the following order:
Row 2: for this row use 2 red-green, 2 blue-green, 2 yellow-green, 2 green-green strips and 3 white squares. Sew them in the following order:
Row 3: for this row use 2 red-green, 2 blue-green, 3 yellow-green, 3 green-green strips and 2 white squares. Sew them in the following order:
Row 4: for this row use 2 red-green, 2 blue-green, 2 yellow-green, 2 green-green strips and 3 white squares. Sew them in the following order. This row is very similar to Row 2, except for the arrangement of the yellow-green and green-green strips
Row 5: this row is identical to Row 3, except it's turned 180 degrees.
Row 6: This row is identical to Row 2.
Row 7: Use the remainder of the red-green and blue-green strips. This row is identical to the first one, but turned 180 degrees.
Sew the rows together. To avoid getting the order of the rows mixed up, you might want to lay them all out first before you start stitching.
Stabilize the white blocks with light-weight cut-away stabilizer and make the embroidery of the designs from the Dwarf with Fruit Set and Fruit Applique Set. For the applique we used scraps of the same fabric we used for the quilt.
We embroidered the dwarves on the white squares of the third, forth and fifth rows. We embroidered fruit on the blocks of the second and sixth rows.
Now place the backing/lining on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all three layers together with 1" pins. If you are making a blanket, quilt in the ditch. If it's a wall hanging, quilt more densely in a free-motion style. Remove the pins.
Press the work with heavy steam and square the work -- all corners should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be of the same length.
Finish the raw edges with binding.
