Dog Rose Tablerunner or Wall Hanging

For this cheerful Summer tablerunner we used the designs from the Dog Rose Set for a large (5" x 7") hoop.

The runner is very easy to sew, and the small surface makes it simple to quilt. The finished size is about 16" x 32" .

You will need: about 1 yard of white or light cream fabric, and flower-patterned fabric, or fabrics. We used the remnants of 4 different fabrics. You will also need batting and backing.

For embroidery, we used embroidery polyester threads, and polyester felt as stabilizer and batting.

Cutting:
Out of white fabric, cut 8 rectangles measuring about 10" x 12"; after embroidery we'll trim them to 6 1/2" x 8 1/2". However, you need the extra size for hooping.

Out of patterned fabric, cut 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 32 1/2" and 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 16 1/2".

Embroidery
Stabilize each of the white rectangles with a piece of polyester craft felt. After the embroidery is finished, cut away the excess felt around the embroidery. Instead of felt you can use your favourite iron-on stabilizer.
Embroider the files 2 and 3 twice each.
Embroider the file 1 2 times as it is, and 2 times as a mirror image.
Assembling the Top
Trim all embroidered pieces to 6 1/2" x 8 1/2".
First sew together the 4 parts with the first file. The embroidery should form a wreath.
Sew rectangles with the second and third files in pairs.
Then sew each pair to the upper and lower edges of the central part.
Sew the 2 1/2" x 32 1/2" borders to the left and right edges of the working piece.
Sew the 2 1/2" x 16 1/2" borders to the upper and lower edges of the working piece.
Quilting:
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.

Pin all three layers together with 1" pins and start quilting. We quilted around the embroidery and made stippling all over the quilt.

After the quilting is finished, press the work with heavy steam and square the work -- all corners should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be of the same length.

Finish the raw edges with the binding.

You can use the quilt either as a tablerunner or as a wall hanging.
Enjoy!
Happy Stitching!
