Santa Doily with Crochet Lace

For this doily we used the cross-stitch designs Santa Claus with Stocking, Santa Claus with Gifts and Santa Clause with Deer and crochet-style FSL designs from
Star Crochet FSL set.

You will need a 10" x 20" piece of 14 ct white Aida cotton cloth; water-soluble Vilene stabilizer; and 60-weight red cotton embroidery threads. The finished size of the doily is about 19" x 27 1/2".

Step One: Embroider the fabric insert first, then set it aside for a while.

Before proceeding to step two, please read the General Guidelines and Step-by-Step Guide to Embroidering our Crochet-Style FSL designs.

Step Two: Embroider the first block design (Star1) eight times.
Embroider the second block design (Star2) eight times.
Embroider the corner design (Det1) four times
Embroider the edge design (Det2) twelve times.
Trim the stabilizer close to the designs, leaving at least 3/4" around each design. DO NOT dissolve the stabilizer now.

Step Three: Lay out the FSL patterns in accordance with the diagram above and start stitching.
Stitch the squares to each other.
Stitch the edge lace and corner lace pieces to each other.
Stitch the edge to the squares.
Stitch the lace to the fabric.

You can now go ahead and dissolve the water-soluble stabilizer.
