Embroidery Contest 2009

Entry # 46

This contestant submitted a picture of her purse with the Reading a Letter design. Here is what she writes:

"This purse is made of a rust-colored fabric that more often than not is probably used for covering chairs and sofas. I fell in love with the material. I quilted a section of the material and used diagonal stitching on it prior to embroidering the lady reading a letter design. The embroidered design on the diagonally quilted fabric became the front pocket. I used the Lollapalooza purse pattern from Studio Kat Purse Designs. This purse pattern was probably intended moreso for thinner materials, but it turned out to be just gorgeous with this material and the striking design of the lady. I used gold-looking filigree buttons because they seemed so fitting for the lady's shawl or blouse. The inside of the purse is lined in a light-blue printed cotton fabric; then, the pockets inside are made of fabric with the same design, but in a rust-colored base. I used a purse base that I purchased from Susa Glenn Designs, and I used a magnetic closure that I purchased from her as well."
