These are instructions on how to embroider and assemble the hat for 18-inch dolls of the American Girl Doll type. The FSL Crochet Hat for 18-inch Dolls is a set of two machine embroidery designs. The designs should be embroidered as we recommend in our General Guidelines and Step-by-Step Guide to Embroidering our Crochet-Style FSL designs.
The hat should be embroidered with 30-, 40- or 50-weight 100% cotton thread. We used cotton Signature thread for machine quilting.
Some points to remember from the General Guidelines:
Use Vilene water soluble stabilizer;
Use cotton thread;
Use the same thread for the needle and bobbin.
DO NOT embroider several designs in one hoop.
Make sure you use a sharp needle.
Step One: Hoop the water-soluble stabilizer and embroider each file twice.
Rinse the stabilizer in warm water and spread the lace to air dry. Do not leave it for too long - the lace should remain slightly damp. If it dries out, spray it lightly with water.
Step Two: Thread your sewing machine with thread of a matching color and start assembling. First, zigzag together the similar parts.
Then, using a zigzag, attach the brim lace to the edge of the hat.
Step Three: Now, stitch together the edges of the panels. This can be done either on your sewing machine or manually.
You're done! Just place the hat on the doll.
