For this handsome table runner, we used one-color designs from the One-Color Christmas Block Set for the large (5" x 7") hoop. It is very easy to put together.
The finished size of the tablerunner is about 22" x 34".
Note: you can make the tablerunner longer by adding more rows. We recommending adding two rows at time: one with green and one with red squares.

|
You will need
- embroidery thread (either polyester or rayon), choose red or green color to match your fabrics,
- medium-weight cut-away stabilizer,
- about 1/4 yard of cream or white fabric for the blocks with embroidery;
- about 1/4 yard of patterned green fabric (for blocks and borders);
- about 1/2 yard of red or wine red fabric (for blocks and binding);
- backing and bating.
|
Cutting:
|
Out of white fabric, cut
- 7 squares measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/2",
Out of the green fabric, cut
- 2 squares measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/2",
- 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 18 1/2",
- 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 30 1/2".
Out of red fabric, cut
- 6 squares measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/2",
- 4 squares measuring 2 1/2" x 2 1/2",
- 3 strips 2 1/2" wide and the length of the width of the fabric for the binding.
|
Assembly of the Top:
|
Note: seam allowance is 1/4". Press every seam immediately after you make it. |
Out of red and white squares sew 3 strips as shown on the picture: red square - white square - red square |
|
Out of green and white squares sew 2 strips as shown on the picture: white square - green square -white square |
|
Sew the strips together alternating the red and green rows: |
|
Sew the 2 1/2" x 30 1/2" strips to the left and right edges of the top. |
|
Sew the red 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares to the ends of the 2 1/2" x 18 1/2" green strips. |
|
Sew the new strips to the upper and lower edges of the top. |
|
|
Embroidery: |
Upload the files from the One-Color Christmas Block Set into your machine and embroider them in white squares. |
|
Quilting and Finishing: |
Now place the backing on a flat surface (table) face down. Cover with batting. Spread your working piece over it.
Pin all three layers together with 1" pins and start quilting. We quilted in a freemotion style around the embroidery and with freemotion patterns on the blocks and borders. |
After the quilting is finished, press the work with heavy steam and square the work -- all corners should be 90 degrees and opposite sides should be of the same length.
Finish the raw edges with the binding.

|
Your tablerunner is done. Enjoy!
