Stained Glass One-Color Applique Rose Panels

These are instructions on how to embroider blocks from the Stained Glass One-Color Applique Rose Panel Set. The set comes in two sizes: for mega (6" x 11"), and commercial (10" x 12") hoops.

The designs have a double zig-zag-stitch finish. We recommend to use cotton or polyester machine quilting threads for the finish.

You will need:

  • base fabric (we recommend black);
  • fabric for the applique stabilized with light-weight iron-on stabilizer (we used thin leather as applique fabric),
  • light-weight stabilizer (a light-weight cut-away stabilizer works for most projects.)
  • embroidery threads,
  • machine quilting cotton threads and
  • temporary fabric adhesive in a stick.

All three parts are embroidered in the same way.

Step One: Hoop the black fabric, stabilized with the stabilizer appropriate for your project.

Upload the file into your machine. Start embroidering. The machine will embroider four corners, thus marking the margins of the embroidery.

Step Two: Cover the surface within the margins with the applique fabric. You can pin or tape the applique fabric outside the margins.

Start the machine. It will embroider the outline of the design.

Step Three: With a pair of sharp scissors, cut away the fabric inside the lines of the embroidery.

A soft paint brush helped us remove all residue and lint.

Step Four: Return the hoop to the machine and finish embroidery. The designs have a double zig-zag stitch finish. We recommend to use cotton or polyester machine quilting threads for the finish.

Step Five: In the same way, embroider the rectangular panels.
Trim the blocks to the size you need. Leave at least 1/2" for seam allowance.

We used the stitch-outs to make a quilted table runner. You can read about how to sew the table runner on the project page.
