The Rose Cutwork Lace Border design is available in 2 sizes: for 5" x 7" (130 x 180 mm), and for mega 6" x 10" (150 x 250 mm) hoops.
You will need fabric, water soluble mesh and embroidery threads. 40-weight embroidery polyester threads are preferred for the project.
Cotton thread is not suitable because the embroidery will be too bulky.
Rayon thread is sensitive to the chemicals in the water-soluble mesh and will not work for the project.
Please note: ALWAYS make a test stitch-out on scraps before you make a stitch-out on the real item.
Step One: Hoop 2 layers of water soluble mesh. Start the machine. It will embroider the outline of the design and stop.
Step Two: Place a piece of fabric over the mesh to cover the outline. You can pin the fabric to the mesh outside the embroidery area. Start the machine. It will embroider the outline of border.
Step Three: Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors cut away the fabric in the areas shown on the picture. Take care not to cut through the stabilizer and stitches.
Step Four: Return the hoop to the machine and finish embroidering.
Step Five: Wash away the stabilizer, neatly spread on a flat surface and leave to air dry. Press.
To make the doilies, you will need either 2 or 3 stitch-outs and a piece of linen or cotton fabric. Position the border stitch-outs on the fabric as shown. Pin in place.
On your sewing machine, topstich the designs in place along the inner edge.
With a pair of shrp scissors cut away the excess fabric on the wrong side.
Return to the machine and with the zig-zag stitch topstitch over the inner edge. Use the same thread with which you made the embroidery.
