You will need fabric, water soluble mesh and embroidery threads.
We recommend to use water-soluble mesh, such as Vilene. Vilene D0102 is a non woven dissolvable stabilizer which is imported into the US, is sold in large rolls and is sometimes repackaged under different brand names.
Some of these brand names are Fabri-Solvy by Sulky, Avalon Plus by Madeira, Wash-Away, and Aqua Magic.
40-weight embroidery polyester threads are preferred for the project.
Cotton thread is not suitable because the embroidery will be too bulky.
Rayon thread is sensitive to the chemicals in the water-soluble mesh and will not work for the project.
Please note: ALWAYS make a test stitch-out on scrap before you make a stitch-out on the real item.
Both designs are embroidered in the same way. They both can be embroidered as inserts or free-standing ornaments.
Step One: To embroider the designs as inserts, hoop the fabric with a layer of water soluble mesh. Start embroidering. The first color will embroider the oval and stops. Start the machine again; the second color will embroider the outline of the flowers and leaves inside the oval and stop.
Step Two: Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors cut away the fabric inside the oval and around the flowers.
Step Three: Return the hoop to the machine and finish embroidering.
Step Four: Wash away the stabilizer and leave to air dry. Press with steam
The designs are good for table linen, curtains and other home items.
We used the stitch-outs on a quilted table-runner. You can read about how to sew the table-runner on the project page.
Step One: To embroider the designs as ornaments, hoop 2 layers of watersoluble mesh. Start the machine. The first color will embroider the oval and stop. Cover the oval with a piece of fabric. Start the machine. The second color will embroider the outline of the design over the fabric.
Step Two: Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors cut away the fabric outside and inside the oval and around the flowers.
Step Three: Return the hoop to the machine and finish embroidery.
Step Four: Wash away the stabilizer. The ornament is ready.
We used it to make a greeting card.
