The Fruit and Flowers Cutwork is a set of 2 designs which can be embroidered both as an insert and as a freestanding doily/ornament. Here are the instructions for both versions.
You will need fabric, water soluble mesh and embroidery threads. We recommend to use polyester embroidery threads.
Note: we show this version with the fruit design. The flower design is embroidered in the same way.
Step One: Hoop 2 layers of water soluble mesh. Start the machine. It will embroider the oval outline of the design and stop.
Step Two: Cover the outline with a piece of fabric and start the machine. It will embroider the same oval outline and the outline of fruit over the fabric and stop.
Step Three: Take the hoop from the machine. With a pair of sharp scissors cut away the fabric in the areas shown on the picture - outside the oval and inside around the leaves and fruit. Take care not to cut through the stabilizer and stitches.
Step Four: Return the hoop to the machine and finish embroidering.
Wash away the stabilizer and neatly spread on a flat surface and leave to air dry. Press if needed.
