FSL Bathing Suit and Bag for 12-inch Dolls

The FSL Bathing Suit and Bag for 12-inch Dolls is a set of 2 freestanding machine embroidery designs. Here are instructions on how to embroider these designs.

You will need water-soluble Vilene stabilizer, 40-weight embroidery threads, a narrow satin ribbon of a matching color and any small embellishments you want to use (optional).

Both the bag and the bathing suit are embroidered like all our freestanding lace, so the General Guidelines might be helpful.

Some points to remember from the General Guidelines:
Use Vilene water soluble stabilizer;
Use the same thread for the upper and bobbin to get two-sided embroidery.
DO NOT embroider several designs in one hoop.

The Bathing Suit

Step One: Hoop 2 layers of water-soluble Vilene stabilizer. Start embroidering. After the first color - the outline - place 4" - 5" long ribbons as shown in the picture and pin them in place. Proceed with the embroidery.

Step Two: After the embroidery is finished, cut the excess stabilizer as close to the embroidery as possble. Rinse the stabilizer and leave the suit to air dry.

To put the bathing suit on a doll, insert her head into the loop first, then fold the bottom part of the bathing suit between her hips, as shown below...

Pull the ribbons across the doll's front, cross them, thread them through the small loops on the back and tie with a bow.

The picture above shows how the ribbons should lie, but you should pass it under the bathing suit's front, like on the picture below.

Tie the the ends on the back.

The Bag

Step One: Hoop 2 layers of water-soluble Vilene stabilizer. Start embroidering. After the first color - the outline - place 4" - 5" long ribbons as shown on the picture below and pin them in place. Proceed with the embroidery.

Step Two: After the embroidery is finished, cut the excess stabilizer as close to the embroidery as possble. Rinse the stabilizer and leave the bag to air dry.

Step Three: Fold the bag and tie the ribbons in front. The bag is ready.

You can decorate the bathing suit and the bag with small embellishments - beads, flowers, etc.
