Rowan Bowl and Doilies Set

Our FSL Bowls are embroidered in the same way as ornaments. So please read the General Guidelines first.
Some points to remember from the General Guidelines:
Use Vilene water soluble stabilizer;
Use the same thread for the upper and bobbin to get two-sided embroidery.
DO NOT embroider several designs in one hoop.
Here are the instructions on how to make the Rowan Bowl and Doilies Set.

To make the bowl, you'll have to embroider eight bowl panels and the circular bottom. All parts of the bowl fit into a 4" x 4" hoop, and that's the hoop you should use. A larger hoop can cause the parts of the bowl to fall apart.

Use 2 layers of Vilene-type water-soluble stabilizer and use the same thread for both the needle and bobbin to get 2-sided embroidery. Rinse the stabilizer and leave to air dry.

It's very impotant to dry the bottom according to the following instructions! Place a piece of grid-paper on a ironing board; pin the bottom inside a circular pattern while it's still wet, and leave to air dry.

Another way is to pin the bottom together with the stabilizer (before rinsing it) to a piece of crafter's foam, then placing the whole thing in water to dissolve the stabilizer and leave the bottom to air dry pinned to the foam.

If you do not do this step, the bottom of the bowl will be deformed.

Impotant Note: It's very important to use as small a hoop as possible. E.g. if your design is for a small hoop, use the small hoop, not the large one; if your design is for a large hoop, use large, not mega. Do not try to embroider several freestanding lace designs in one hoop. This is because all water-soluble stabilizers stretch, and in a bigger hoop, they're going to stretch more. This can lead to the design falling apart after the stabilizer is dissolved. It's always better to embroider one part at a time.

Press all parts with steam. Continue as you would with any other freestanding bowl. Read instructions in our Guide to Assembling a Freestanding Bowl.

The little doilies are embroidered in a 5" x 7" hoop. Use 2 layers of Vilene-type water-soluble stabilizer. For the doilies, you can use white bobbin thread as they don't have to be two-sided. Rinse the stabilizer and leave to air dry. Press with steam and stitch the parts together using invisible thread.
